I SURVIVED!

Hi All -

Well I survived. I ended up staying the night in the hospital which was unplanned, but my surgery was pushed from 12:45pm to 5pm because the Dr had an emergency so by the time I got out of surgery it was 7pm and they wanted to keep me. I'm in pain, but it's not horrible. My neck is sore and my throat is very sore when swallowing, it's the muscles more than a sore throat from the tube, I think. I'm on vicodin (pill form, for whatever reason they didn't want to give me liquid). Let me tell you, crushed vicodin is absolutely disgusting. Like GAG ME WITH A SPOON disgusting. Tried some last night in cranberry juice...yuck. Tried this morning in applesauce, double yuck. Mom had to rub my back to distract me from throwing up. Well, then mom bought Haagen Daaz chocolate ice cream and crushed the pills into 1/2 scoop of that. It worked! And was the first bit of ice cream I've had....YUM!

I was up 3 pounds this afternoon which is likely from the two bags of saline they sent through my body. Surgery was at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center. It's a gorgeous old hospital here in the city. I ended up in a private corner room with a wall of windows overlooking the water and the 59th street bridge. Lovely way to hang out in a hospital.

Surgery went smoothly. Everyone from the guys that wheeled me around to my nurses to the aides were absolutely incredible. My doctor was just great. They took the right side of my thyroid out. Didn't see anything unusual with the lymph nodes so that's the first hurdle passed. What it means is if by chance I do have cancer it hasn't spread anywhere. I'll find out Wed what the results of the pathology tests are.

I'm completely exhausted from being woken up throughout the night, so hoping to get a nice night of sleep tonight.

Thank you all for your kind words of support. It's amazing to have you ladies on my side!
