How I'm Doing

Day Four...The Hunger Begins!

It took until today for me to truly begin to feel hungry. My stomach even rumbling. I'm still doing good on the liquid diet, but definitely anxious to move on to some real food - and by that, I mean MUSHIES! For those who don't know (my family), mushies are scrambled eggs, refried beans, yogurt, applesauce, etc. That phase actually opens up a wide variety of choices like egg salad. It will be nice to eat somewhat normally again. I've been doing well with soups, although I've never been a huge soup fan. Mom bought some yummy organic soups, so I've had tomato, potato leek and butternut squash. They are all smooth, no lumps, so that works for this phase.

My pain has been pretty good everywhere except my shoulder. The pain was so bad today that I tried to go walking with mom and just lifting my arm hurt. Hurt so bad that I was cracking up in the elevator which had us both nearly in tears. It feels like I have a pinched nerve, which I know is the gas. The only thing that feels good is a heating pad. I'm sure that will leave soon, so I'm living with it. I just like to moan and groan every once in a while to let people know I'm special!

Mom and I are off to see Hair tomorrow. We had the tickets when my surgery was supposed to be last Monday. I'm sure I'll feel fine and am excited to see it. Hopefully I won't be "lucky" enough to be one of the people they pull up on stage to dance. How ironic would that be? I've always wanted to do that and be that girl, but not when I've just had lap band surgery.

  1. Oh I remember that hunger phase SO well! You are doing brilliantly.. really well. The gas pain should subside (hopefully?) soon. Just keep walking, and taking the gas meds... oh and blowing it out the other end lol it all helps :)

  2. WHAT! They pull you up on stage! I wanna go! I am jealous that you get to see all the real shows on broadways. I have been to NYC several times, and the first time I came was probably back in 98? We saw Rent. It changed my life. I was sobbing and clapping...good times.

I have seen it other places as well, but I am always happy that I actually got to see it on Broadway for my first time!

And oh yes...the hunger has arrived. Be strong!

  3. Hey there, hope last night was fun!

    Hair was fun!

I don't have hunger yet, knock on wood. But I do have pain. I'm having a hard time breathing well and it's freaking me out. I'm supposed to go for a walk with my dog in a bit and I keep vacillating between doing it and not (because I'm a hypocondriac and I keeping thinking: what if you collapse, oh no!)

    It's 8:30 so I can't call the clinic yet.

I start on full liquids tomorrow. I have not been this excited about yogurt in a long time, if ever ;-)

  4. I got hungry pretty quickly after surgery too. Hang in there though. You'll see egg salad before you know it. :)

  5. Ahhh... I remember my first mushy after-surgery... poached eggs - and they were the best poached eggs I ever did have... Enjoy! You're almost there!
