I had a great night out with friends last night, but unfortunately overdid it on the alcohol. I'm pretty sure I had three martini's, but I can't fully remember. This was over a five hour time period, but still WAY too much to drink. We were just having so much fun and I lost track. When I got home, I was feeling awful. Ended up having to throw up (was terrified to do so with my band). Weirdest thing...NOTHING came up. Nothing at all. I just burped these really loud burps. Went to bed after taking aleve and drinking water. Woke up this morning so nauseous and again had to throw up. Again, nothing but dry heaves. My abs hurt so bad from my workout on Friday, so the whole thing was just not fun. Needless to say I'm feeling fine now but lesson learned. I actually think I'm going to give up alcohol for a couple of weeks. I don't drink alot and don't drink often, but over the holidays there was more wine than usual. First time having a hangover with the band. Pretty much felt like it was pre-band, just absolutely awful!!
In other news, I'm not at all excited about going back to work tomorrow. I sort of feel like I don't remember what I do it's been so long since I've had to work! ;-)
I went to Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday and used a gift card from my mom to buy a crock pot. It's my first one, so I'm pretty excited. I found a pot roast recipe online and went to whole foods today to shop. It's a really easy recipe, I'll share it once I test it out!
Hope you are all well. Best of luck to Vanessa and Kristin who are joining our bandster club tomorrow! Send them good thoughts! xoxo

Hi Jen,
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for a few weeks now. Thanks for sharing. Sorry for the TMI response here, but vomitting was a pre-op concern that I had. We ended up w/ the stomach flu the week before Christmas, and trying to puke past the band was painful. Next to nothing came up from the most forceful wreching I've ever had. My lips were bloody from dry heaving so hard. Anyway, I share these discusting details because I wasn't sure if banders were supposed to try to get an emergent unfill if they were vomitting. I'll ask my doctor of course (pre-op he didn't seem too concerned), and I couldn't find anything really informative on the internet. I think I survived without any slippage, so all seems to be good.
Good luck on E-Harmony, PLEASE keep everyone up to date!!!
Lara
So good to learn these lessons from my fellow bandsters. Hope you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteOh Jen - what a crappy night (one I'm sure we'll all experience at some point). I've haven't thrown up yet and I am a little scared.
ReplyDeleteYou'll love the crock pot - I do pork loin in ours all the time and it so moist and tender. One thing I've noticed with mine at least is that veggies take longer in it in the oven, so add them in the with the meat in the beginning.
I hear ya on the over drinking sister! I did the same thing on New Year's Eve. I was fine until the champagne toast and then whammo..knee walkin drunk. I got so nauseous and then nothing. I could not throw up for anything, just slime and a lot of really weird noises. I can tell you this, I strained so hard trying to throw up I broke capillaries in my face. I had small red dots all around my eyes the next day when I was finally well enough to look in a mirror (that took a while, I was soooo hung over.) All in all, lesson learned. I can't throw up like I used to and should never drink a bottle of wine followed by champagne again!! Some of us (me) have to learn our lessons the hard way! Good thing is no pain or anything when eating so it seems like the band is still in place. I am going to talk to my surgeon tomorrow about it (he's going to love that story) when I get my fill.
ReplyDeletePoor you.. that sounds awful. I'm glad the worst of it is past and hope your tum settles. Typical we always have to learn the hard way. Do we ever grow up? Don't think so!! lol
ReplyDeleteeek ! So sorry girl! I do hope that you're feeling better and hey it too feels like it takes sooooo much less alchol to get me a little whirly these days as well..I guess it's just another adjustment.
ReplyDeletetake care of the tummy and let me know how you like your slow cooker, I just LOVE mine !!
I haven't used a slow cooker in years, let me know how it works for you!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with alcohol except I've never been one to throw up from drinking just really bad hang overs. When I was fat,it took a lot to get me tipsy, now I have trouble knowing when to stop at times and just a little gets me tipsy. Anyway, getting adjusted to how much alcohol is enough is difficult.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Jen!
ReplyDeleteI was at BB&B too yesterday spending my gift card! Sorry I didn't see you there. I love my crock pot, I need to use it more often though. As for the drinking, I don't seem to have a point where I feel like I overdid it. It's like I can drink just as much as I could pre-band, which in the end is probably a bad thing! Ugh, I just keep thinking about all those calories I consumed over the holidays...
Happy New Year Jen!
ReplyDeleteI had that experience over the weekend.. no fun! My hubby has these Nauseum tablets I took because I was afraid I was going to throw up. It had elecrtolytes so good for a hangover. I do need to lay off the booze for a while!
I LOVE my crock pot my own personal chef :)
I made turkey chili in mine yesterday!
I empathize with you on the vomiting. I got a touch of a stomach bug just after Christmas and I tried to vomit but no luck...just dry heaves for a few minutes... It was kind of scary for a moment. I was worried about the band slipping but then I calmed down when I realized that the stomach has a very muscular lining that would be pushing on both sides of the band during the heaves so the likelyhood of slippage wouldn't be that high. That's my theory but I'll confirm it with my surgeon tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling super duper soon!
Jen, you are so nice to send your best wishes! Thanks a million. I'm out and feeling not too bad. I'll update shortly. -- Kristin
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'm so sorry to hear about the hangover. You're a lightweight now, missy. I hope you're feeling better. Enjoy the crockpot!
