How I'm Doing

Random Thoughts...

Week three of couch to 5k DONE!! For those of you who do/have done couch to 5k, how fast do you walk/run? I walk at 3.7 and run at 4.5 and think it's way too slow if we're supposed to be able to run a 5k in 30 minutes. In the end I don't really care how fast I do it...I'm running dammit and that is huge for me. ;-) Besides I feel like I'll get through the nine weeks and once I get to running for 30 minutes straight (THAT WILL BE HUGE), I'll try and up my time.

Oh, I've decided that I'd like Jake on The Bachelor to fall in love with me. Anyone reading able to make that happen?

Thank you all so much for the amazing comments you left on my blog. You continue to be so incredibly supportive and I'm so grateful for all of you.

HUGE NSV yesterday. Had a great brunch with Catherine and Tracy and we went to Bloomingdales afterwards to do a bit of shopping. I needed a clubbing dress for Vegas so we headed to the plus size section. Catherine said "I bet you can shop in the regular section"...I said "I don't think so". Cut to me finding an adorable (and sexy) black silk dress - SIZE 14 - regular department!! YEAH!!

Oh, last random thought. I've seen other bloggers post their workout list, so I thought I'd include mine. Ooh one hint that I read somewhere... Try not to listen to your workout music except when you're working out. Supposedly makes you more excited to workout since you finally get to listen to your music. Works for me!

Single Ladies (Beyonce)
Don't Stop Believin' (Glee cast)

  1. Woo Hoo Size 14 dress! AWESOME NSV!

About C25K - I have done it in the past...and did not finish the 10K in 30 mins. More like 40 something minutes. Actually, 4.7 is pretty fast for me - but I have these short stubby legs. I think this is one thing they don't really tell you - many newbie runners will not be able to do the 5K in 30 mins.

But who cares? Just to be able to finish is a huge accomplishment! And who knows, you may make it in 30 after all!

  2. Ooo, I like your list..I might have to update mine. I am watching The Bachelor right now and thinking "that boy gets cuter every minute!!!"

  3. You are doing so good! I am just starting the C25K and am going much much slower! I started walking at 2 and "running" at 3. I am still working up to completing the first week, but I am now starting to walk at 2.5-2.8 and run at 3-4. However, this just about kills me.

I have seen a couple people's first time 5k times and most of them are much higher than 30 - closer to 45 minutes. A 30 minute time would be 6.25 mph so maybe if you increase by .1 mph at each workout you might get there by the end of the training! Whatever your goal turns out we will all be proud :)

  4. Great dress and workout list. September is a favorite tredmill song of mine - definately makes me step a bit quicker.

  6. Fantastic getting into the size 14 dress!! See, if they hadn't encouraged you, you wouldn't have even tried it yet!!

As for Jake "The Bachelor", oy vey!! If I were a LOT younger, I hear you!! He is definitely cute & I always loved pilots!!

  7. Jen, I finished the C25k and I run at about 3.7, and can finish 3 miles in about 47 mins on the treadmill, but about 43 running outside. I am just happy that I can run 3 miles. I figure the speed will come later (although I am trying to speed up a little ;) )
I agree that most times I see posted for a 5k and new runners is about 40-45 mins. Keep up the good work.

  8. I am in my second week (but now have to hold off with the jogging until my back is on the mend) and was jogging at 7km an hour (but obviously only for a 90 seconds) and walking at 5km an hour (not sure what that is in miles?). Congratulations on getting into a size 14!

  10. Congrats on getting out of the "big girl" department. It is one of my dreams to be able to wear the cute stuff. And your dress is really cute. Have fun in Vegas.

  11. OMG, I <3 Imogen Heap, love her!! Congrats on the sexy dress, you are going to have so much fun flaunting your bad ass self in that 14!

I was thinking the same thing - how fast should I be walking/running. This morning I did Day 1 of Week 4 - I walked at 3.4 and ran at 4.4 and finished 1.92 miles in 33 minutes. I kinda feel the same way - I am running dammit - so that is what I am focusing on. Running for 30 minutes straight. I can work on my speed after that. Not sure if this is a good plan or not - but it is all I have!

  12. hahahah! I used to love watching the bachelor but it makes Tracey so cranky and I get tired of hearing "This is so fake, why do you watch this"...that I had to give it up. SIgh.

Who cares about that though! YOU ARE UNDER 200! Wasn't it just last week that you were stuck? And now you moved just the right amount! Awesome job Jenny!

  17. So many good things in this post.

Thanks for the music recommendations- a lot of them are on my list, too. But some new ones. It's funny but with all the other crap we have to do/think of picking music is something I don't do often enough as a treat!

To answer your question I too have stubby legs like Gen. (5'5') and when i walk run on the treadmill I do for example, this week, 3 minutes of running at 5 kms with a recovery of two minutes at 3 or 3.5, 7x. (I'm doing a 10k so it might be different). I have a lot of athlete ppl who recommend you really use your recovery period to walk at a pace that's very comfy. But since I am shorter than you 3.5 is my walking speed.

Hope that helps. My husband can do a 10 k in 47 minutes. I will probably need an hour and a half. Maybe more. But I am okay with that.

And, as for your NSV..... AWESOME. You looked so pretty in your pic and that dress is simply amazing. Go you!!!!

Can't wait to see it on. B
