The New Girl Inside My Body

There is a new girl inside my body. I met her about two weeks ago. The situation was like this: I was leaving work and saying to myself "Ugh, I have to work out tonight". However, I found that I wasn't trying to talk myself out of it on the way home. Instead, I got home, threw on my workout clothes and headed downstairs to run. I thought to myself "Hmm...this is different". Then today, I'm home sick. I have been battling a nasty head cold since Monday and while I'm feeling better today, still stuffy and lots of yuckiness. Still, new girl in my body said "But old Jen", actually let's rephrase that "But former Jen"...I did turn 37 this year, let's not give me a complex, "Former Jen, we ended week three of C25k on Monday, we have to start week four today or it will get away from us". There weren't any excuses, this new girl inside my body just got up from the couch, threw on gym clothes and went downstairs to run. New Jen was nice. She said "You don't have to do it all out if you can't. Week 4 would be hard even if you weren't sick, but at least try. Push yourself". And you know what? I DID IT. I did the entire thing. It was really hard but I did it. And week 4 SUCKS. It's 5 minute warm up, then 3 minutes run, 90 seconds walk, five minutes run, 2.5 minutes walk, 3 minutes run, 90 seconds walk, five minutes run, 5 minute cool down. YUCK! BUT I DID IT!!!!!! So, I like the new girl inside my body. Here's the best part about her. She doesn't have an attitude, she doesn't judge, she just inspires. And, she's proud of former Jen. She's proud of former Jen because it was she that made the decision to get this lap band. It was former Jen who decided to change/live her life.

Here's the craziest part...I actually feel better after working out. INSANITY! ;-)

  2. I'm glad that New Jen is nice and helping you to stay motivated. I always have that person in the back of my head telling me I need to go to the gym when I don't want to. It's a nice form of motivation.

  3. That is great! Week 4 - it totally sucks, but I am glad you did it all the way! That is a real accomplishment when you don't feel well.

This new Jen is pretty smart, keep listing to her and it will continue to pay off!

BTW, I am actually wearing the Nine West jeans you gave me. I am not sure what made me try them on this morning, but I am glad I did! They fit great! <3

  14. I'm with Cara- love it when you look back at new behaviors and old- I am seeing that in myself, too. And same for me, getting a work out in is becoming part of the routine. It feels weird if I don't at this point.

  15. Great post Jen...it is really valuable to discover those "voices" and "parts" and see them inspire us and surprise us...sounds like you are connecting to an essential and freer part of yourself...so free you went to the gym and worked out...great phrase "worked out." There is often something that wants to be "worked out!" Except, you really enjoyed this so it is more like you "played out!" Just like you are "playing out your dreams" in life's little journeys! Love watching YOU unfold!

    Big hug,
    Mary
