Reason Numero Uno:
He told me I was amazing! Okay...story. I haven't seen Dr. F since he cut me open and put this lovely band in me. The NP's do my fills because I don't have the patience to wait for his schedule to open! So, he comes in and sits down to log-in to the computer to see how I was doing. I had lost 14 pounds since my last fill, exactly one month ago today. On their scales, I've lost 63 pounds but in reality I was two pounds higher going into surgery, so it's 65. Whatever. As he is signing into the computer he asks two questions. 1 - How long has it been since surgery? Answer, about 3 1/2 months and 2) How are you feeling? Answer, I feel great. Then he sees that I've lost 63 pounds in that time and he turns to me and says "Holy shit! You are great! That is amazing!". Tee hee....Then he said "We're not going to do anything today"....insert screeching halt sound here. I had waited for two hours...for no fill. NO WAY JOSE! I explained that part of the reason I was successful was that my willpower was strong. Yes, I've got good restriction, but I'm still hungry about 2 1/2 to 3 hours after I eat. Based on that, he said "Well then, let's fill ya up", which translated to .5 cc. I'm now at 6.75cc's. YEAH!!
Reason Numero Dos:
I asked him if I was allowed to drink carbonation. He said YES! He told me that he LOVES Diet Coke and drinks it regularly. For those who may not know, Dr. F has had a band for nine years. He mentioned that I should drink it over ice - which I do (well did prior to August 7th) and maybe let it sit for about 5 minutes just so that initial bang of carbonation isn't there. He said "It won't do anything to your band, there are a lot of urban legends out there about carbonation, but it's just not true". Did I mention I LOVE HIM?
Reason Numbero Tres:
Fantastically perfect Australian accent. ;-) Well that and he did save my life with this lap band. Between getting skinnier and making me get a physcial which led to finding out that I had thyroid cancer, I pretty much think he's the man.
So now here I sit, back on liquids for two days and then mushies. It actually doesn't bother me because it will just help me reach my Thanksgiving goal - 213 (70 pounds down). Yes, that would be five pounds in a week, but I can do it! I have a client party tonight, which will be weird since I can't eat, but I intend on having a glass or two of some pinot grigio, so I'll be just fine!!

Ah, good news about the carbonation! Nice to know...probably not for a little while after surgery, but a nice treat.
ReplyDelete3.5 months and 65 lbs down - WOWOWOWOWOW!
I have always thought the carbonation thing was just to scare people! And...that it keeps us away from it a little more (except for me!) But it is good that you got confirmation from your doc! You are really doing so good with your weight loss!
ReplyDeleteYou totally deserve his awesome reaction! I'm 3.5 months out and am okay where I am, but I'd be floating in the clouds if i were 65 pounds down! I saw him do the orientation at NYU but went a couple of years later to a different orientation with Dr. Kurian, and my husband and I went with her for the band since she's easier to book. Dr. Fielding is a character though!
ReplyDeleteI am totally going with what your doc said about the diet soda, I miss it so much!! I am in the same boat, party tonight, got my 4cc fill today...guess it's wine for dinner...ahh too bad ;)!! I am hoping this gets me to my Thanksgiving goal as well, 5lbs in 1 week. We can do it!!
ReplyDeleteI love hearing about the NYU practice-- Dr. Ren will be my surgeon in a bit over 1 month. Can't hardly wait... great job on your wonderful progress.
ReplyDeleteOMG Amy already commented but I was thinking she is going to LOVE this post lol. Aussie docs are the best - and seems this one is right up there.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you've lost so much weight in so little time. That is truly amazing!!!
I'm glad to hear your Dr. say that about diet soda. My said it was OK a few months ago and I haven't gone crazy, but I have on about once a week - it's a good treat. I always ask questions about gulping water or drinking soda and my NP says so many myths like that start with RYN rules that don't really translate to the band.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a fill!!
Enjoy that soda!
ReplyDeleteAwww, I'm so glad for you that you love your doc!!! He does indeed sound lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the weight loss! You are amazing and rocking that band!
ReplyDeleteGreat post Jen ! Now I know what to tell Dr Ren next month when I go in for a pre-xmas fill !! THANKS ! Glad to hear that you and Dr Diet Pepper can resume your relationship...Ditto on his accent I LOVE IT !!!
ReplyDeleteCan I just say...Holy crap! I can't believe how much you've lost in just 3.5 months! Awesome!
