How I'm Doing

A Day to Try New Things

Since surgery I've been eating breakfast at home and bringing my lunch to work. It's funny we take measurements before surgery and then track them as we lose...I wish I had tracked my food budget for a month before surgery and tracked it now. I've got to be saving money!

Anyway, I slept in this morning so was in a huge rush to get to work and opted to eat lunch out. This picture to the left is a salad sandwich from my favorite place Chop't. This particular one is the Rocky Mountain Cobb. Romaine lettuce, grilled chicken, crumbled bleu cheese, craisins, walnuts and balsimic vinigarette. Before surgery, I could eat this entire thing. I would be full (for a couple of hours) but I would eat it in 10 minutes easy oh and then at 3pm want something sweet. Today, I ate 1/2 of one side and it was YUMMY! (By the way..I think it's hilarious that the packaging says "Get a Grip"...I wish I'd noticed that when I used to eat the entire thing.) The great thing was it took me 30 minutes to eat 1/2 of this and I saved the other 1/2 for tomorrow. I was nervous about getting it because I had heard other bandsters talk about having trouble with lettuce, but I chewed chewed chewed and everything went down just fine. Best part is that I wasn't hungry until about 5:30 so it kept me satisfied for five hours! It's all still unbelievable to me.

I caught up on fellow bandster blogs today and was completely inspired by Sarah and Gen and their decision to begin running (or in Gen's case start running again). So, I went online and printed out Couch to 5k (thanks Catherine) and came home, threw on my workout clothes and went downstairs to the gym in my basement. Did 20 minutes (which is what Couch to 5k calls for) of alternating walking/running. Did 1.25 miles and am very proud! So thank you to Sarah, Gen and Catherine for the motivation!

The Biggest Loser started last night. Absolutely the saddest season yet, but I continue to be inspired by them. Whether it's the woman who lost her entire family and is just striving to get out of bed everyday, or the young lady who weighs 476 pounds, I am excited and hopeful for their progress. I am always amazed how they get them running in the first workout. Last night was a big "if they can do it, I can do it" moment for me.

So my goal is to do a 5k in early 2010. One of my best friends moved to Denver and is a runner. I can't wait to visit her and be able to "go for a run". ;-)

  1. You're doing so awesome, good for you!

That wrap sounds so yummy, I love blue cheese, the stinkier the better!

I'm so impressed by all you runners - my ankle won't allow it now, but that's definitely a long-term goal for me!

  2. Jen, I am so excited for you!!! Running is awesome! Stick with it, you will love it. I am so thankful I still have running in my life...even if I am the slowest of the slow right now. Who cares!

And running in Denver will be the best. Altitude takes a little bit to get used to, but it is the perfect place for running, no humidity, never really too cold (as long as the snow is cooperative). I actually live southwest of Denver, where it is even more perfect for running. Seriously, EVERYONE runs here (or at least bikes). In my part of the world, if you have not done a marathon you are the odd (wo)man out. Really annoying when you are overweight, but also inspiring and motivational....

That wrap sounded awesome! I need to get me one of those once I move on to solids!

  3. Way to go!! That is awesome about your run! :)

Have you tried Guy & Gallard for lunch? They deliver, and they have really great fish. I got the cajun blackened salmon with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies on Tuesday (and ate the leftovers on Wednesday), and the whole thing was less than my usual order at Hale & Hearty!

  4. Jenny - yay, yay, yay!!! Maybe all of us on the East coast should find a 5k in NYC in the spring and meet up there... At any rate, keep it up and I'm with you on the Biggest Loser - LOVE that show. For the first time watching it, I weigh less than almost all of them do. Amazing.

  5. That wrap sounds tasty!

Except so sashimi I've mostly been bringing my foods from home, so up next I'm gonna experiment with eating out.

OMG, you are so right about tracking our eating out budget prior to surgery. I should have done that, too. Weight and mesaurement stats are good- but cold hard cash? event better!
