A View from a Train

I'm once again on a train this weekend. Off to see some great friends in Providence. A good friend of mine from college, Rich, his amazing wife Stacey and their 1 1/2 year old twins. My other friend Shawn is joining us too so it should be a fun time. Shawn lives in Vermont so we rarely see eachother. It's bound to be a night full of laughter! I am slightly concerned as none of them know about the band. Rich has already mentioned going to a gourmet food truck for lunch that is known for its sausage. Gulp! I'll navigate it fine just praying that my band behaves! I've had nuts and a granola bar on the train and all seems good so far.

It's been a busy couple of months, next weekend is the first I'll have with very few plans scheduled. Really looking forward to that! I wanted to mention that I'm still reading everyone's blog but I can't comment from work. I may have mentioned this before but there is a firewall that allows us to read but that's it. I am keeping up with everyone though and so excited about Chicago!

On another note, I know that most people look at today 9/11 as a sad part in our history, a day of rememberance. I too believe it's a day that we should never forget. However today holds different meaning for me. Today is my mom's birthday. My mom is the most extraordinary woman I know. She's got an amazing heart and is always the first person to raise her hand to help someone out. She's incredibly selfless yet at the same time lived out her dreams in becoming an incredible performer. She's also an amazing teacher, not just educating people on the fine art of singing but also helping people discover who they are as people and helping them find their way in the world. She taught at a performing arts college in NY and her students treat her like a second mom. Some of the kids struggle to make ends meet, getting rejected at auditions and my mom is always there for them with a kind word or an extra $20 tip. When I had to have two surgeries last year, one for the band the other for my thyroid cancer my mom was there. Either pulling her Sally Field moment to get me more meds or congratulating me on being so brave. I feel lucky every day to have been born to my mom. She's an incredible role model and friend and I cherish the day when I have my own child and can be just like her.

Xoxo

I can't believe you got that beautiful photo from a train on the East Coast corridor. It's usually ugly city on Amtrak!
